Living in Harmony

Scripture
. . . And the Scriptures give us hope and encouragement as we wait patiently for God's promises to be fulfilled.

May God, who gives this patience and encouragement, help you live in complete harmony with each other, as is fitting for followers of Christ Jesus. The all of you can join together with one voice, giving praise and glory to God, the Father of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Therefore, accept each other just as Christ has accepted you so that God will be given glory.
Romans 15.5-6

Observation
We are called to live in harmony with other believers.

Application (How will I be different today because of what I have just read?)
My responsibility is to accept other believers whether they agree with me or not--whether they accept me or not. I am called to ask God for the patience and encouragement I need to help me live in complete harmony with other followers--especially when living in complete harmony is not what they are concerned about. And it is only something that I can do though the power of the Holy Spirit.

All sounds good, but not easy to do. I have to be intentional at extending grace and at being patient with others--especially when I don't feel like it. When others are negative or ugly, it is critical that I live out my faith and live as God has called me to. That doesn't mean that I give in or say that they are right, if they are not--but it does mean that I handle the situation with love, encouragement and patience.

So, today, I will begin living this way. I will not retaliate or judge or get angry. I will respond with grace and patience through the power of the Holy Spirit. . . because I know I can't do it on my own. I will be slow with my response so that I have time to think before I speak and I will measure my words. This will be a big "growth opportunity" for me--but one that can impact my life and the life of the church in many ways.

Prayer
Father God, thank You for growing me. Help me to treat others the way You would have me treat them. Help me to do my part to live in harmony with others. I look forward to the day when all of us can join together with one voice, giving praise and glory to You God, the Father of my Lord Jesus Christ!!
